The annual rate of inflation in May as measured by the Retail Price Index stood at -0.39 per cent against 1.88 per cent a year earlier.
The National Statistics Office said the largest downward impacts were mainly due to lower airfares and electricity rates.
The main upward impacts were due to higher prices of newspapers, cigarettes and furniture.
The 12-month moving average rate was 0.8 per cent
