The annual rate of inflation crept up to 1.5 per cent in October from 1.2 per cent the previous month, figures issued today show.

The statistics office, quoting the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) said the largest upward impact on annual inflation was recorded in the Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages Index (0.37 percentage points), mainly reflecting higher prices of non-alcoholic beverages.

The largest downward impact was recorded in the Clothing and Footwear Index (0.28 percentage points), attributed to lower prices of garments.

In September 2017, the annual rate of change for Malta as measured by the HICP was 0.3 percentage points lower than that registered for the euro area.
