The GWU said today that it will declare an industrial dispute at ST Microelectronics after it was informed by its members that an agreed increase in salaries and bonuses which was due to have been given with the latest pay was actually not issued.

The union said it will convene a meeting of its central workers’ committee on Monday to register the dispute and will take all necessary actions to defend the workers’ interests.

The union explained that the increases formed part of the collective agreement covering 2006-2010 and the company therefore had no right to withhold payment.

The union said it was calling on workers to be on alert for any directive it may issue.
