Indonesia issued but then lifted a tsunami warning after a powerful earthquake struck in the Maluku area in the eastern part of the country, the country's meteorology agency said this afternoon.

The quake measured magnitude 7.3 and the epicentre was located 209 km (129.9 miles) north west of Saumlaki at a depth of 165 km.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake struck at 11:40 p.m. local time
