Nearly four years after gunmen carried out a three-day rampage in Mumbai, the only surviving militant has now been executed.

Mohammad Ajmal Kasab, captured with an accomplice during the 2008 attack, was hanged today at a prison in India.

In August the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence for Kasab, who was a Pakistani national.

It's the first time India has carried out a capital sentence since 2004.

He had filed a mercy plea, which was rejected.

Over 160 people died in 2008, when 10 gunmen stormed the financial capital.

Kasab was filmed at a Mumbai train station, where nearly 60 people were gunned down.

India has accused Pakistan of failing to act against those behind the raids.
