The Malta Stock Exchange share index increased by 40 points or two per cent over the week and now stands at 2,265.093.

HSBC Bank Malta opened trading at Lm5.520 on Monday and went up to close yesterday's session at Lm5.80. 24 deals were struck during the week during which 19,155 shares changed hands. Following yesterday's session, 1,000 shares at Lm5.65 and 200 shares at Lm5.80 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively.

Bank of Valletta shares opened the week's trading at Lm2.64 on Monday and closed the week's trading at Lm2.69 yesterday. During the week, trading ranged between Lm2.58 and Lm2.69. Turnover amounting to 76,455 shares changed hands over 60 deals. The best bids and offers following yesterday's session were 2,536 shares at Lm2.67 and 829 shares at Lm2.75.

Meanwhile, trading in Maltacom shares opened at Lm1.25, went down to Lm1.13 before going up again to close yesterday's session at Lm1.24. Total turnover amounted to 123,776 shares changing hands over 67 deals. Following close of business yesterday best bids for 2000 shares at Lm1.23 and best offers of 4,000 shares at Lm1.24 remained outstanding.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place; 8,373 International Hotels Investments shares between €0.80 and €0.799; 20,832 Malta International Airport shares between Lm0.71 and Lm0.70; 215 Middlesea Insurance shares between Lm2.279 and Lm2.260, 1,500 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares between Lm0.92 and Lm0.90, 1,350 Plaza Centres shares between Lm0.59 and Lm0.587, 1,000 Lombard shares at Lm3.70 and 4,700 Datatrak Holdings shares between Lm0.278 and Lm0.260. Trading in Fimbank shares this week was made up entirely of two put-throughs amounting to 2,000,000 shares struck at $0.90.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm991,700 being traded in 94 deals over 18 different stocks. Of this total, a nominal value of Lm720,000 changed hands in the 4.8 per cent MGS 2016(II) over 31 deals. Trading over the week in Corporate Bonds was made up of a total value of Lm126,278; spread over 51 deals.
