The Malta Stock Exchange Share Index increased by 4.853 points or 0.24 per cent over the week and now stands at 2,035.761.

Bank of Valletta shares opened the week's trading at Lm2.349 on Monday, went down to a weekly low of Lm2.34 on Tuesday and went back up to close the week at Lm2.36. Turnover amounted to 27,108 shares changing hands over 21 deals. At the close of business yesterday, 1,000 shares at Lm2.325 and 1,003 shares at Lm2.36 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively.

Trading in HSBC Bank shares opened and closed the week at Lm4.77, with the equity's price reaching a low of Lm4.70 on Thursday. A total of 28 deals were executed, over which 30,927 shares changed hands. After yesterday's session drew to a close, 1,500 shares at Lm4.75 and 1,763 shares at Lm4.77 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers.

Maltacom shares traded between Lm1.09 and Lm1.10 during the week, with the former being the opening price on Tuesday, while the latter was the closing level yesterday. This was up by 0c6 on the previous week's closing price. In total, 22,970 shares changed hands during the four sessions of this week, spread over 12 deals. Following the end of yesterday's session, 2,500 shares at Lm1.08 and 11,476 shares at Lm1.10 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively.

In a company announcement on Wednesday, the board of directors of Simonds Farsons Cisk Plc stated that it is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, October 1 to consider and approve the company's financial statements for the six months ending July 31, 2003.

In a company announcement issued by FIMBank plc yesterday, it was announced that acceptances of the cash offer had been received from the holders of approximately 65.1 per cent of the LFC shares to which the offer relates, and as such all conditions to the offer have now been satisfied or, where permitted, waived. Accordingly, the offer is declared unconditional in all respects.

Following are the other equities which traded during the week, followed by the range in which trading took place: 600 Malta International Airport shares at Lm0.69; 3,130 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares between Lm0.77 and Lm0.781 and 3,824 Datatrak shares at Lm0.311.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm1,737,400 being traded in 26 deals over 19 different stocks. Of these, a nominal value of Lm547,700 changed hands in the 5.5 per cent MGS 2023 while a nominal value of Lm1,006,000 changed hands in the 7.8 per cent MGS 2018. Trading over the week in Corporate Bonds was made up of a total value of Lm90,248.
