The Malta Stock Exchange share index increased by 9.24 points or 0.304 per cent over the week and now stands at 3,048.16.

Bank of Valletta shares opened the week at Lm4.45 on Tuesday and went up to end the week's trading at Lm4.48.

Total turnover amounted to 7,834 shares changing hands over 21 deals. The price ranged between Lm4.49 and Lm4.40. At the end of yesterday's session, bids for 535 shares at Lm4.40 and offers of 40 shares at Lm4.47 made up the best unsatisfied closing positions.

Meanwhile, HSBC shares witnessed a decrease of 2c3 during the week after Tuesday's trading session opened at Lm7.988, while yesterday's session closed at Lm7.965.

During the week the price ranged between Lm7.989 and Lm7.965. Total turnover for the week amounted to 21,052 shares changing hands over thirteen deals. At the close of the business yesterday, best bids for 1,000 shares at Lm7.50 and best offers for three single shares at Lm7.965 remained outstanding.

Trading in Maltacom shares opened the week at Lm1.44 and closed yesterday's session at Lm1.441.

A total of 15,551 shares changed hands during the week, spread over 21 deals. Following yesterday's trading session, 2,100 shares at Lm1.441 and 1,000 shares at Lm1.46 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively.

Middlesea Insurance plc continued with its recent positive trend this week when the relevant price closed Lm2.50, an increase of 9c when compared with its closing position the previous week. Trading opened at Lm2.499 yesterday, and closed the day's trading at Lm2.50. 5,969 shares changed hands in total, over seven deals. At the end of yesterday's session, bids for 1,000 shares at Lm2.50 and offers of 115 shares at Lm2.75 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place; 500 Lombard Bank shares between Lm4.251 and Lm4.25; 16,000 International Hotels Investments shares between €0.80 and €0.79; 15,000 FIM Bank shares at Lm0.989; 5,950 Malta International Airport shares between Lm1.109 and Lm1.10; 16,640 Global Financial Services shares at Lm1.20.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm671,800 being traded in 57 deals over 17 different stocks. Trading over the week in corporate bonds was made up of a total value of Lm78,363.
