A reader took the above picture of a grey heron flying low over Marsascala this morning before it was shot and injured.

"I was in Marsascala on the coast when a magnificent grey heron came in against the strong 'majjistral' wind. It circled low for a few minutes giving me and other walkers a spectacle very few ever witnessed before. I also had the time to take a few photos. I kept following the bird when at one point it was shot at by hunters behind St Thomas Bay. It flew out at sea with an injured dangling leg. I took photos of this too and it just depicts how sad it is to shoot at birds," Mark Sultana said, adding that this had been an incredible sight, turned sour.
