The number of people with a part-time job as their primary occupation shot up by 874 in June, according to figures published by the National Statistics Office.

During the same month, 110 workers were reported to have been added to the list of people who had both a part-time as well as a full-time job. The total part-time employment in the same month increased by 984 over the preceding month.

The National Statistics Office said the number of full-time employees increased by 819 in June compared with the preceding month, while those registering for unemployment dropped by 277 in the same period.

On the other hand, in the 12 months to June 2010, the number of full-time employed increased by 227, while the registered unemployed fell by 498.

The NSO said that in June the number of full-time employees stood at 145,690, whereas the number of registered unemployed amounted to 6,775.

The number of people employed on a full-time basis in the private sector increased by 756 when compared with the previous month.
