The price of locally produced pork will rise on Monday, due to increases in the cost of animal feed, the Pig Breeders’ Cooperative Society Ltd said.
It said in a statement that animal feed made up more than 80 per cent of the cost of pork production.
The cooperative hoped that this increase, of 20c per kilogramme on the price of whole pig carcasses sold by the cooperative, will be sufficient to offset part of the additional cost of feed.
However, it did not rule out the need for further increases as indications were that cereal prices were to continue to rise.
