The Muslim Community in Malta this evening chanted “free Palestine” as they walked down Republic Street, Valletta, in a peaceful protest against the recent Israeli attack on the Humanitarian Gaza Aid Convoy.

The demonstration is currently being followed by a vigil of prayers and poetry reading, supported by a number of non-governmental organisations to express solidarity with the Gaza flotilla victims.

Participants urged the local and international communities to work for peace in the Middle East and demand Israel to assume its responsibilities and respect human rights.

They called for the violation of human rights in Gaza to end and the blockade to be lifted as soon as possible.

The organisations supporting the event were Alternattiva Demokratika Zaghzagh, the Arabic Cultural Information Society (ACIS), Euro-Med, Kopin (Koperazzjoni Internazzjonali - Malta), Moviment Azzjoni Xellug, Moviment Graffitti, Peace lab, Stand4Palestine – Malta, Third World Group and Zminijietna.
