Deportivo: The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) fined Primera Liga side Deportivo e600 yesterday, after home fans racially abused Real Madrid full-back Roberto Carlos, last weekend. Referee Jose Losantos Omar called a brief halt to Saturday night's 2-0 league win for Deportivo, to ask a section of the home fans to stop abusing the Brazilian.

Friendly OFF: A friendly match between Austria and Croatia was cancelled yesterday after freezing temperatures in Vienna made the pitch unplayable. "The hard ground means there is a danger of injuries," a spokeswoman said.

Skela: Albania midfielder Ervin Skela will join Kaiserslautern from fellow Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld on a free transfer at the end of the season. Skela, 28, has signed a two-year contract with Kaiserslautern.

Chivu fit: Romania defender Cristian Chivu has recovered from a long term toe injury and will be fit for the World Cup qualifiers against Holland and Macedonia this month.
