Match-Fixing Scandal: The German FA (DFB) ordered a regional league game be replayed yesterday as it believes a referee implicated in Germany's match-fixing scandal sought to influence the result. Hertha Berlin Amateurs beat Arminia Bielefeld amateurs 2-1 in 2004, under the control of Dominik Marks, a referee since provisionally suspended by the DFB over match-fixing allegations. Germany has been rocked by revelations from referee Robert Hoyzer, who has admitted fixing games for money from a gambling gang and has implicated several other German referees.

Masks Ban: Crystal Palace warned yesterday that Manchester United fans wearing Eric Cantona face masks to commemorate his infamous kung-fu kick 10 years ago would be banned from tomorrow's Premier League match. Palace issued the warning after reports that United supporters had dubbed tomorrow "Cantona Day" to mark the 10th anniversary of when the French striker lashed out at Palace fan Matthew Simmons. He was later handed an eight-month suspension.

Jailed: Two young Manchester United players who injured two people during a high-speed road race were jailed yesterday, joining a growing list of soccer players serving time in British prisons for traffic offences. United reserve Mads Timm was sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders' institution for taking part in the car chase following a training session in January last year. Callum Flanagan, who left Man. United shortly after the accident, was given an eight-month sentence after admitting the charges against him.

Mellor: Liverpool forward Neil Mellor became the club's third striker to suffer a premature end to the season yesterday. Mellor, who enjoyed an extended run in the side after scoring a spectacular late winner against Arsenal in November, will undergo surgery to cure tendinitis in both knees. "The club have decided surgery is the answer to cure the problems once and for all," Liverpool said.
