Euro 2012: Romania has given up its bid to host the 2012 European Championship because of a lack of financial support from the government. Greece, Italy, Russia and Turkey have already informed UEFA that they are interested in making solo bids for the finals, while Croatia/Hungary and Poland/Ukraine have opted for joint bids.

Pamarot: Tottenham's French defender Noe Pamarot faces up to nine months out after suffering cruciate ligament damage during their Premier League game at Birmingham on Saturday. Right back Pamarot, who has made 23 league appearances since joining from Nice last year, was injured when he fell awkwardly after 12 minutes of the 1-1 draw at St Andrews.

Navarro: Sevilla defender Javi Navarro was banned for five matches by the Spanish FA yesterday for a challenge that knocked Real Mallorca forward Juan Arango unconscious during a league match. Sevilla's legal adviser Manuel Soto confirmed that the club would appeal, basing their argument on the fact that the referee had punished the player by showing him a yellow card.

Beckham: Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham is hopeful of shaking off a thigh strain in time to face Barcelona in this weekend's top-of-the-table Pri-mera Liga match at the Bernabeu. Beckham strained a muscle in his left thigh during England's 2-0 victory over Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier at St James' Park last Wednesday.

No Appeal: Chelsea will not appeal against UEFA punishments handed to the club and coach Jose Mourinho over incidents involving Swedish referee Anders Frisk during last month's Champions League match in Barcelona. "Chelsea can confirm that, following the receipt of the detailed reasons from UEFA, we will not be appealing any of the penalties imposed on the club or any individual," the club said.
