Ignashevich: Russia coach Guus Hiddink recalled experienced defender Sergei Ignashevich for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Macedonia and England next month. Hiddink sent Ignashevich home last week when the CSKA Moscow captain turned up late for training ahead of the home friendly against Poland. "I made a mistake and I learned my lesson," Ignashevich told reporters.

Greek Cup: The Greek Football Federation said yesterday it had called off this week's Greek Cup first-round ties because of the forest fires that have swept the country, killing 63 people in three days. The start of the Super League was also postponed at the weekend. But today's Champions League third qualifying round second leg between AEK Athens and Sevilla will go ahead.

Cisse: France striker Djibril Cisse will miss his side's Ligue 1 game against Nice tomorrow after picking a groin injury in a 2-1 victory at Caen at the weekend. "He is also very doubtful for the match at Paris SG this weekend," coach Albert Emon said.

Corinthians: Corinthians sacked coach Paulo Cesar Carpegiani immediately after losing 3-0 at home to Cruzeiro last weekend. Carpegiani, who coached Para-guay at the 1998 World Cup, was fired after 23 games at Corinthians as he became the 29th coaching casualty of the year among Brazil's 20 first division clubs.

Nugent: Derby want to sign Portsmouth striker David Nugent but Pompey manager Harry Redknapp wants the striker to stay. Portsmouth signed Nugent for £6m in July from Preston, but after starting the first two games of the season, he was on the bench for the last two. "Derby do want to sign Nugent, but he's only just joined us and I'm happy to keep him here," Redknapp said.

Domenech: France coach Raymond Domenech has been suspended for one match after being found in breach of UEFA's disciplinary regulations. Domenech has been handed a touchline ban for his side's Euro 2008 qualifier against Italy and fined 10,000 Swiss Francs for bringing football into disrepute. He has three days to appeal against the decision which follows remarks made to a French newspaper.

Ionel Ganea: Politehnica Stiinta Timisoara striker Ionel Ganea was sent off after grabbing an assistant by the throat during a first division match against Rapid Bucharest on Sunday. Linesman Dorin Buzura told the referee about a Ganea foul which would have led to a second yellow card and a sending off in the 70th minute of the game. Ganea first shouted at the assistant then appeared to try to throttle him for several seconds before three team-mates managed to prise Ganea's hands from the assistant's neck and remove him.
