Lamouchi: Former France midfielder Sabri Lamouchi is leaving O. Marseille because he was finding it tough to secure a first-team place. Marseille chairman Pape Diouf told a news conference yesterday that the 34-year-old had asked to be released from his contract, which ran until 2007.

Petrescu: Poland's Wisla Krakow sacked Romanian Dan Petrescu as head coach yesterday, citing a failure to deliver results just a month into the new season. Wisla, the Polish champions, lie second in the league after seven games but struggled to a draw against lowly Gornik Leczna on Saturday and look set to exit the UEFA Cup after a home defeat to Greece's Iraklis last week.

Marchena: Valencia's Spanish international defender Carlos Marchena will miss his side's remaining Champions League group games after tearing the cruciate ligament in his left knee in a Primera Liga match at the weekend. Tests revealed that the 27-year-old would be out of action for around three and a half months.
