Euro ban: Benfica's defensive midfielder Augustin Binya has failed in his appeal against the six-match European ban for his studs-up tackle on Celtic's Scott Brown. The Cameroon international was told yesterday by UEFA's appeals body the ban would stand.

Fred: Olympique Lyon's Brazil striker Fred has decided to stay at the club. Several clubs, among them Paris SG and Tottenham Hotspur, had expressed an interest in Fred, who has lost his place in Lyon's starting line-up to young France striker Karim Benzema.

Fulham: Fulham are to sign Watford striker Marlon King pending a medical in a deal worth £5 million. King, 27, has scored 37 goals in 82 starts for Watford. Fulham's Dutch striker Collins John has agreed to a loan move in the opposite direction with a view to a permanent transfer.

Wigan: Sweden international Erik Edman has agreed to join Wigan Athletic on a 2 1/2-year contract from Stade Rennes, the 29-year-old defender said. Edman played for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2004-2005 season before signing for French club Stade Rennes.

Shirt deal: Everton have announced a three-year extension of their shirt sponsorship deal with Thailand's Chang Beer worth £8 million. It is the most lucrative shirt deal in Everton's history, the Premier League club said.

Saviola: Real Madrid's Argentina striker Javier Saviola twisted his left ankle and a ligament in his left knee and had to be substituted during the side's 1-0 home defeat to Real Mallorca in the King's Cup on Wednesday.

Arkady Gaydamak: Beitar Jerusalem owner Arkady Gaydamak has threatened to stop bankrolling the club if its supporters are found to be behind the torching of the offices of the Israeli FA. Vandals broke into the Israel FA's headquarters in Tel Aviv in the early hours of Wednesday, setting fire to the entrance lobby and scrawling threatening graffiti against IFA officials on the walls. The graffiti appeared to link the attackers to Israeli champions Beitar. "If it is proven that Beitar supporters were responsible for the action and it is done again, I will withdraw as the financial supporter of Beitar," Gaydamak told reporters.
