Car crash: Levante midfielder Emilio Viqueira and his family escaped serious injury after they were involved in a major car crash. The car overturned after Viqueira lost control while at the wheel, but the occupants were able to escape through the windows.

Owen: Newcastle have sent Michael Owen to see specialist Hans-Wilhelm Mueller Wohlfahrt in Germany after the striker picked up a thigh injury on England duty last week. Manager Sam Allardyce told reporters he hoped the trip would speed up Owen's recovery but still feared Newcastle's record signing would still be out for between four and six weeks.

Clemente: Serbian Football Association (FSS) president Zvezdan Terzic said he would back the national team's Spanish coach Javier Clemente to stay in charge even if Serbia fail to qualify for the Euro 2008 finals. "I have been reluctant to state my position up to this point but I now want to make it clear that I will support Clemente at the FSS executive board session on December 6," Terzic said.

2018 bid: Markus Siegler, FIFA's former Director of Communications, and Peter Hargitay, the special advisor to FIFA president Sepp Blatter, have been appointed as consultants to work on England's 2018 World Cup bid. The English FA said that Hungarian-born Hargitay will end his work for the FIFA president next month "in order to avoid any conflict of interest".
