The Malta Table Tennis Association (MTTA) are holding their second Grand Prix today at the University Sports Complex, starting at 7.30 p.m.

The tournaments provide useful practice to national team players in the build-up for the World Teams Championships in Qatar in two weeks' time. Edward Baldacchino won the first Grand Prix after beating Mark Azzopardi 3-2 (11-9, 11-5, 5-11, 6-11, 11-8) in a thrilling final.

Canoeing - Three-year plan presented

The Malta Canoe Union (MCU) recently held its annual general meeting in Valletta in which a three-year plan, aimed at developing a local roadmap for canoeing, was presented. In November 2003, this plan was submitted to the Malta Sports Council and the MOC.

A number of amendments to the statute of the MCU were also approved. These changes include the evolution of the MCU into a federation. At the end of the meeting, the acting committee of the MCU was elected as the council for the federation for another term of 12 months. The members of the council are: J.C. Wightman - president; P. Zammit - treasurer; I. Busuttil - secretary; G. DeGaetano, J. Borg, S. Polidano and I. Leo - members.

Tennis - Team tournament at TCK

The next tournament at the Tennis Club Kordin is the 12th edition of the San Michel team competition. The same format has been retained and junior players under 15 will be placed in a separate category. Application forms are available from TCK (tel. 21-896463) or through www.tennisclubkordin.com. The closing date for applications is February 22.
