Malta's lawn bowls quartet of Sharon Callus, Rosemarie Rixon and her daughters Rebecca and Connie-Leigh were off to a impressive start in the fours competition after winning their opening two round robin group matches at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

Malta opened their commitments against England, formed by Sophie Tolchard, Natalie Chestney, Ellen Falkner and Sian Honnor, and the Maltese battled to a 14-10 victory.

Next up were an Indian side formed by Farzana Khan, Lovely Choubey, Runpa Rani Tirkey and Nayanmoni Saikia.

The Maltese fours showed great mental strength as they came from behind to win the match 20-15.

The result lifted the team to the top of Section B with a maximum six points.

On Friday, the Maltese team will end their commitments when they face Fiji and Northern Ireland.

In the Pairs competition, Shaun Parnis and Brendan Aquilina experienced mixed fortunes on the opening day of competition.

The Maltese duo lost their opening group match against Australia 22-11.

However, they recovered their poise and defeated Brunei 28-11.

Today, Parnis and Aquilina face Guernsey and Canada.
