Domestic refrigerators and freezers that contain HFCs (flourinated greenhouse gases) with global warming potential of 150 or more are prohibited from being placed on the market, the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority said.

In a statement it advised buyers to check that products in this category were compliant before they ordered or purchased them, especially if they originated from outside the European Union.

Importers of domestic refrigerators and freezers containing HFCs, it said, should  notify the MCCAA of any such consignments 15 days prior to their arrival.
