News of the World recently published an article where it reported that in 2007, some 250,000 Britons left their country to flee immigration, high taxation and crime. It works out at 684 people leaving every single day - or one person every two minutes. This was a massive increase of 21 per cent on the previous year when according to British government figures 207,000 left the country. On the other hand, 591,000 foreigners settled in the UK in 2006 alone, and the figure is increasing drastically.

These migratory patterns coupled with the low number of births to native British couples, means that native British are set to become a minority in their own country within only a few decades.

This phenomenon is not only limited to the UK; what is happening in the UK is happening across most European countries and Malta is no exception. Since becoming an EU member, thousands of Maltese have left our country while thousands of citizens from EU states came to work in Malta. To these migrations, one has to add many thousands more of illegal immigrants coming from Africa, Asia and eastern Europe.

Unfortunately, the Maltese government does not publish figures for people leaving and people settling in Malta. Apparently our government does not even have an idea of the demographic changes our country is going through and by the time anyone will publish correct figures, it will be probably too late to do anything about saving our national identity and sovereignty.

Unfortunately, only Azzjoni Nazzjonali and the odd independent are doing something about the future of our country, leaving the electorate not much of a choice if their major concern is illegal immigration and the long-term negative consequences that this shall bring about.
