The kidnappers of the Maltese man abducted in Libya last Monday should release him at once and unconditionally, the Imam appealed yesterday.

Pierre Baldacchino, 36, a manager at Saint James Hospital in Tripoli, was abducted as he was returning to his home.

“On behalf of the Muslim community in Malta I would like to express my deep concern and sadness for the continuing abduction of Mr Baldacchino,” Imam Mahammad Elsadi said in a statement.

The Imam Mahammad urged the Tripoli authorities to intensify their efforts to try secure his release in time for Christmas.
