A piano recital by Gisèle Grima will be held at the Manoel Theatre’s Sala Isouard on May 12.

Grima will be performing a programme of works by Liszt and Debussy.

From Liszt’s first year of his Années de Pelerinage (Switzerland), she will perform Au Lac de Wallenstadt, Le Mal du Pays, Les Cloches de Genéve, Orage and Éclogue.

From the second year (Italy) Grima continues with Sposalizio and 12 preludes from Debussy’s Préludes, Bk. II.

Grima is the winner of an Ian Tomlin Scholarship at Napier University, Edinburgh, from which she graduated B. Mus. She has also studied elsewhere in the UK and Finland. She is currently under the wing of scholar and pianist Paul Roberts.

In 2008, at the Royal Northern College of Music Grima, was finalist in the Silverstone-Blank Duo Prize and also won the Prix Scarbo. Chosen as a finalist for the RNCM’s Piano Recital Prize (2009), she was awarded the William Humphreys Dayas Prize for her success.

She has performed locally including a recital in 2008 at San Anton Presidential Palace, and her debut last year with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Michael Laus. She has also performed in Italy, the UK, Finland, France and Syria.

A former ballet and flamenco dancer, Grima is still very interested in dance, and together with Marisha Bonnicia she recently founded Inflections.

This is a collaborative project which seeks to demonstrate the close relationship between live piano performance and dance.
