Recent developments in the field of illegal migration proved the Labour Party's insistence that the voluntary burden sharing arrangement was not offering satisfactory results for Malta right.

In a statement, the PL said that although this had been presented by the government as a magical solution, the European Commission itself had now admitted that the voluntary burden sharing agreement had not been effective for Malta.

A report by Nationalist MEP David Casa even insisted that burden sharing should be obligatory, something the PL had been insisting upon for years.

Justice Minister Chris Said criticised the Dublin Treaty mechanism, something that also reflected the position the PL had constantly taken, the PL said.
