Malta this year experienced a 31 per cent increase in quantified illegal immigrants. In a short span of a few years the mass influx of illegal immigrants reaching our shores from Africa alone has been equivalent to three per cent of the Maltese population. Our authorities it seems have no clue of how many other illegal immigrants stemming from the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia and elsewhere roam freely in our society and at what cost.

If this status quo is maintained it is no longer a matter of if but certainly a matter of when this country will be overrun.

While our representatives rush all over Europe at the public's cost in a futile attempt to lobby their colleagues in the EU for a burden sharing agreement, it is clear to all those who are not oblivious to the obvious, that this nation stands alone.

But it is worse than this; not only does this nation stand alone - it also stands thoroughly naked.

News of illegal immigrants landing undetected and roaming happily about has become an alarming recurrence. How can we convince ourselves that the official statistics which the government cites are credible? How can this government ever reassure us that it can win the war on human trafficking or on the smuggling of contraband and drugs when those in charge of our safety cannot even detect boatloads of human beings? What happened to the AFM's boast that they can spot a coca-cola can floating on the ocean? How are we to believe that our "defense forces" can ever defend this island if, God, forbid the need ever arises?

Azzjoni Nazzjonali has been consistently calling on the government to drop its charade, beef up the security and take unilateral action. Despite our repeated warnings and the growing public discontent, our elected representatives continue to abdicate their responsibility to this nation. While our territorial and sovereign integrity was being undermined on a daily basis our MPs preferred to take their vacations. They should have been slaving away, day and night, in the recesses of Brussels drumming it into their colleagues' heads that our country means business. How can we expect others to take us seriously when we are not capable of being serious ourselves?

It is amply manifest that our society has been abandoned to its fate by the inept and disinterested representatives it elected to serve it. It is likewise obvious that the "solidarity" we have all been promised was nothing but another hot air gesture for which the EU is fast becoming famous.

In such as scenario nothing remains but for society itself to shake this government out of its torpor and apply the necessary pressure by all democratic means possible.

Azzjoni Nazzjonali therefore calls on those citizens who are not afraid to stand up and be counted for the common good of our society to contact us on and volunteer their services. We shall be needing them in the coming weeks and months to support AN in its democratic fight to save this island.
