The man accused of the murder of Twanny Borg il-Bona, told the police soon after his arrest that he had intended to take a harpoon for his meeting with the victim, but then took a knife.

During the compilation of evidence against Allan Galea, who stands accused with Il-Bona's fatal stabbing, policemen who were the first on the scene said that upon their arrival they found the victim's brother, Frans, in a state of panic, shouting that his brother had been stabbed.

He also pointed to where the aggressor had run to.

Two policemen gave chase and spotted the accused in the distance but managed to catch up with him and arrest him. Galea wore jeans and a blood-stained white T-shirt.

A police patrol car took him to police headquarters.

At HQ, Inspector Chris Pullicino cautioned Mr Galea, but he said he would reveal all.

He then told the police said that he had been dismantling a monti stall when Twanny Borg phoned him, telling him that if they wanted to talk, they should talk in front of other people - but he did not say what about.

Galea told him he was not scared of him because he was not a little boy.

Galea then dismantled the stall and went to the square where he was to meet Borg. He had been planning to take a harpoon with him, but then took a knife "so as not to implicate" his girlfriend .

When he arrived near Marsaxlokk church, Galea said he was beaten up by the victim and his brother Frans and, Mr Galea told the police, he then stabbed il-bona with a knife.

He then told the police that he then ran from the scene.
