Peter Calleya, head of research at the Institute of Financial Services was in Cambridge for a partners' meeting of the EU-funded 'Equalifise' project.

The project aims to develop a European qualification assurance league in financial services.

Mr Calleya presented the results of the 'levelling' of two qualifications offered by the institute locally, using guidelines developed by the project. Following the exercise, the qualifications were assigned a level in the European Qualification Framework.

The findings of this exercise were then discussed in Cambridge with the other partners, who conducted similar exercises in their countries, to share best practice and find ways to improve the process for better quality assurance.

"The outcome of the 'Equalifise' project will be beneficial for Malta in view of its Vision 2015 for financial services," Mr Calleya said. "It will contribute to a better understanding and integration of financial services qualifications across Europe within a recognised framework."

The Equalifise project, which brings together partners from 19 European countries, is to be concluded by mid-2009.
