A Hamrun woman who last month admitted to having posed as another woman and been issued an ID card under the other woman's name, admitted in court today to having used an HSBC chequebook issued under the 'new' name to defraud a number of shops.

Mary Magdalene Sultana, who is unemployed and lives off social benefits, posed under the name Caroline Grech to make purchases of €1,610 from Scan Computers, €604 from Forestalls, €340 from Peter Blond Ltd, €164 from Model Shop, €1,322 from Pavi,and €1,233 from Homemate.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna said he would deliver sentence after hearing evidence by the probation officer of the accused.

He granted bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000.
