The first Iberia Express A320 Airbus landed at Malta International Airport from Madrid-Barajas Airport today.

Iberia Express is the second, new airline to join MIA’s network this year, and will be connecting the Maltese islands to Madrid every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The low-cost Spanish airline forms part of Spain’s flag carrier Iberia, with its fleet sharing the same vibrant red and yellow livery. Since its launch in 2012, Iberia Express has expanded its route network considerably and today operates flights to 39 destinations, of which 14 are domestic and 26 international.

Prices starting from €39 per segment.

Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis welcomed Iberia Express and said that the overall outlook for the Maltese tourism industry, for the short and long term, remained positive and encouraging.

The Spanish airline’s first flight was welcomed with the traditional water salute and passengers were treated to cake made especially for the occasion.
