The film Il-Gagga (The Cage) will be screened at the Great Directors Film Festival in Tripoli starting tomorrow.

The festival is being organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with the Tripoli Municipality People's Committee for Culture and Information with the participation of several embassies, including Malta's. A total of 16 films will be particpating.

Produced in 1971 by director Mario Philip Azzopardi, Il-Gagga is an icon of Maltese cinema. It is an adaptation of Frans Sammut's novel bearing the same name.

It captures the torment that conflicting values, social and cultural mores have on the community and on individuals.
