Baywatch star David Hasselhoff wants to remake the television show Lovejoy and take on the lead role of the dodgy antiques dealer himself.

The actor, currently appearing as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, also said he would consider appearing in a remake of David Lean’s classic Lawrence of Arabia but ruled out playing Hamlet because of the “long hours” involved.

He told Piers Morgan he wanted to marry again but revealed he was “petrified” of women as a young man.

In an interview with Morgan of ITV1, he said he had “as much talent as the next guy”.

He said: “I just haven’t had the right role yet, and I don’t think it’s ever going to come, because The Hoff has taken over. I’d like to remake Lovejoy, I loved Lovejoy, I think it’s great. I’d like to do Lawrence of Arabia. I’d say I’d like to do Hamlet, but I don’t think so, it’s too hard, long hours.”

Lovejoy, which starred Ian McShane as a loveable rogue getting into scrapes in the antiques trade in East Anglia, appeared on the BBC between 1986 and 1994.

Baywatch co-creator, Michael Berk, told Morgan how care was taken when making the show so Mr Hasselhoff was not upstaged by his co-star Pamela Anderson. “Our directors had to learn how to stage the different shots so that attention wasn’t drawn off David too much due to Pamela Anderson.”
