New Speaker Michael Frendo told Kurt Sansone in an interview last week that it was important to have a lively parliament. Little did he know that it would get more than he bargained for a couple of days later.

In the interview, recorded before last Thursday's debate on the power station, Dr Frendo reflects on his appointment and discusses the areas where he would like to see progress in the functioning of the House 'to bring parliament closer to the people.'

Dr Frendo also insists he was never a yes man, not even in his days in the Cabinet.

Extracts from the interview can be seen above. The full text is carried in The Sunday Times.
