Tobia, the rare Egyptian vulture which arrived in Malta on September 24, rested on hunting grounds while on Malta and was watched over by hunters, among others, the hunters’ federation (FKNK) said.

The vulture was from a conservation reintroduction programme in Italy.

The federation this morning published correspondence from the programme’s president thanking its members on whose hunting grounds Tobia rested while on Malta.

The bird, which departed from Calabria, spent the night at Fawwara in Dingli and left its roosting spot at 8am the next morning for tal-Madalena in Dingli Cliffs from where it left continuing on its migration south.

It arrived in Misurata on the September 25 and was in Algeria on September 28.
