The membership of anyone taken to court accused of a hunting-related criminal activity will be immediately suspended, the hunters' federation warned this morning.

In a statement, the FKNK said that the membership of any accused hunters who happened to be a member would be revoked if found guilty. Without such membership, a hunter or trapper would be unable to pay the required licence fees.

A number of protected birds have been shot in the past days, including two honey buzzards and two black storks. Other illegalities have also been reported.

The FKNK rejected claims that the illegalities had increased this year. On the contrary, it insisted that the hunting laws were observed and that any incident committed by "cowboys" was nowadays making the "sensational" headlines.

The federation appealed to its members to report regulation breaches to the police on phone number 119, the Wild Birds Regulations Unit on 2292 6401 or the federation on 9947 4503.
