Hunters who used to hunt at Xaghra l-Hamra are claiming discrimination after the park authorities decided no hunting will be allowed in that park after 9 a.m.

In a letter to 160 hunters who used Xaghra l-Hamra, the Hunters and Trappers Federation (FKNK) said that that now that this area had been declared a park, hunters were being excluded from it ,contrary to the practice abroad.

The FKNK said the decision to limit hunting to 9 a.m. was arrogant and unilateral and did not leave any space for any constructive debate.

The federation felt that the government was using the chairman of the park to create a precedent. It said it was convinced that it would find the support of hunters and trappers when the time came for them to regain the rights.
