Hundreds of people took part in a Way of the Cross up Is-Salib ta l-Għolja from Siġġiewi to the Laferla Cross on Thursday evening as part of Maundy Thursday services.

The hill was spectacularly lit by a large number of torches (fjakkoli).

The activity is an annual event of San Nikola Band Club. It was started by a group of youths in 1993.

Funeral marches were played by the band near the cross, and a drama group, Carpe Dieme, held a representation of the passion of the Lord as it related to modern times.

More than 600 fjakkoli were lit in the square in a manifestation organised by Grupp Armar 6 ta' Dicembru.
