784 persons in Malta and Gozo were charged with domestic violence in 2013 along with  778 arraignments last year, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela told Anthony Agius Decelis (PL) in Parliament this evening.

He also said that in 2013, 66 persons were arraigned a total of 344 times on charges of loitering for prostitution. By comparison, 2014 had seen 50 people being arraigned a total of 196 times.

The minister said sentences handed down included imprisonment, suspended sentences, probation, conditional discharge, fines and rebukes or warnings.

Arraignments for rape totalled 13 in 2013 and six last year.
