Some 30 boys and girls with Type 1 Diabetes recently took part in an activity camp in Gozo, combining recreation with entertainment to further their cultural education and learn to live better with their condition.

This annual event is organised by the Maltese Diabetes Association (MDA) with the help of the HSBC Cares for Children Fund. "Apart from fun activities, during the camp children are accompanied on tours around Gozo to discover the island's cultural wealth and traditions," said Chris Delicata from the MDA.

"Besides this recreational aspect, the experience allows the children the opportunity to discuss their condition and its inconveniences with doctors and the nursing team. Every year, there are children who, for the very first time, learn how to administer injections themselves."

Mr Delicata thanked HSBC for facilitating this camp through its Cares for Children Fund. "These camps are empowering experiences for children living with diabetes. We receive overwhelming feedback from the participants and their carers who look forward to this annual event," he said.
