HSBC Bank Malta has sponsored the upgrade of the play area at the National Council of Women's premises in Blata l-Bajda. The area is used by children of women attending courses and seminars at the centre.

"Over the years, HSBC has supported various initiatives that help people unlock their potential and grow self-confidence," said Sally Robson, HSBC chief operating officer. "Many of these have resulted in tangible benefits."

Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity, Dolores Cristina, congratulated the NCW for its initiatives, saying: "When such structures are in place, men and women are able to fulfill their potential and participate fully in the social, economic, and cultural life.

This idea of incorporating a play area within the facilities used by grown-ups for their studies and career advancement is a step ahead towards encouraging more women to be active in the formal economy, while knowing that their children are in the hands of qualified personnel."

NCW president Doreen Micallef said: "The contribution of our organisation, whether through courses, events or policy statements, over the years has served to further a more woman-friendly society.

HSBC's sponsorship is a means to facilitate and improve the quality of our life while it promotes equality of opportunity for women and enables them to participate effectively in all aspects of community life."
