HSBC has sponsored Mellieħa council's purchase of trees and plants for a new garden opposite the Manikata church, called Ġnien iż-Żernieq, which includes a playing field and picnic area.

Anthony Buttigieg, HSBC area director said the initiative was part of the bank's corporate social responsibility programme, through which it "is giving every local council in Malta and Gozo a contribution for community initiatives for the environment, children, education or heritage in their area".

Mayor John Buttigieg said the local council had transformed a neglected piece of land in this picturesque area to be enjoyed by the present and future generations.
