A communications ban will take effect at HSBC today for members of the Malta Union of Bank Employees.

The union said it had a “serious disagreement” with the bank and was concerned by its attitude towards the local workforce.

It said the bank had unilaterally withdrawn a collective agreement agreed to in August and complained about “unacceptably low increases in salary and mediocre bonus awards”.

It accused the bank of spending much more on international recruits, to the detriment of local employees.

The MUBE said it understood its action could affect services to customers and regretted any inconvenience.
