HSBC shares opened the week at Lm5.85 and went up to close at Lm5.94 yesterday. A total of 54,793 shares changed hands over the week, spread over 32 deals. Following yesterday's session, 600 shares at Lm5.905 and 545 shares at Lm5.94 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively.

In a company announcement issued yesterday, the board of directors of HSBC Bank Malta plc stated that it would be meeting on Thursday, February 12, to consider and approve the group's and the bank's final audited accounts for the financial year ended December 31 and to consider the declaration of a final dividend to be recommended to the bank's annual general meeting.

Trading in Bank of Valletta shares was conducted at Lm2.72 during the first two days of the week. Wednesday's session saw the equity open at Lm2.72 and go down to close at Lm2.705. During Thursday's session trading took place at Lm2.72 once again.

However, yesterday trading commenced at Lm2.73 but went up to close the session at Lm2.75. Total turnover consisted of 30 deals being struck over a total volume of 72,262 shares. Best bids for 870 shares at Lm2.72 and best offers of 1,424 shares at Lm2.75 remained outstanding following yesterday's trading session.

On the other hand, Maltacom shares opened the week on Monday at Lm1.21 and subsequently closed yesterday's session at Lm1.24, up by 4c on the previous week's closing price. Weekly turnover amounted to 81,050 shares being traded over 40 deals. 2,000 shares at Lm1.23 and 4,700 shares at Lm1.245 were the best outstanding bids and offers when yesterday's session drew to a close.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place: 6,900 Malta International Airport shares between Lm0.731 and Lm0.72; 379 Middlesea Insurance shares at Lm2.20; 1,379 Lombard Bank shares at Lm3.72; 8,077 Simonds Farsons Cisk plc shares at Lm0.90; 41,749 International Hotels Investments shares between Lm0.785 and Lm0.74 and 550 San Tumas Shareholdings shares at Lm0.75.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm658,900 being traded in 68 deals over 19 different stocks. Of this total, a nominal value of Lm215,300 changed hands in the 4.8 per cent MGS 2016 (II) over 18 deals. Trading over the week in Corporate Bonds was made up of a total value of Lm215,296.59.

The Malta Stock Exchange share index increased by 26.296 points or 1.16 per cent over the week and now stands at 2,289.243.
