HSBC, through its Cares for Children Fund, on Sunday joined children and organisations catering for them and promoting their rights in marking World Children's Day.

World Children's Day came into being on November 20, 1959 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. The day is observed throughout the world on different dates.

In Malta, the occasion was celebrated last Sunday with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, the Ministry for Social Policy, the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs and the entities falling under their umbrella pooling resources to organise a programme of events at Ta' Qali National Park.

HSBC's head of public affairs and CSR, Josef Camilleri, made a donation to Education Minister Dolores Cristina, pointing out that the bank's corporate social responsibility goes beyond monetary funding.

He explained that the Cares for Children Fund enjoys the support of HSBC staff who regularly, and on a voluntary basis, participate actively in activities to improve children's quality of life, particularly of those with a more difficult background.
