An HP education centre which will provide courses on blade technology, networking, virtualisation and cloud computing was opened at Mcast today by Charló Bonnici, Parliamentary Assistant within the IT ministry.

The setting up of the education centre was spurred by a collaboration agreement signed in December 2010 between the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) and Mcast with Hewlett-Packard (HP).

Mr Bonnici said that the root of Malta's future competitiveness was in the   educational system.

"Aside from a stable and secure environment, prospective investors also seek  countries which have a skilled, flexible and responsive labour market. These are the reasons why companies come here, stay here, and create jobs," he said.

The HP Education Centre provides courses based on  industry-based curricula, resources and equipment available.

Herbert Rastbichler, HP Vice President and Managing Director for Central and Eastern Europe said HP's collaboration with Mcast allows his company to share its knowledge and establish the groundwork for young professionals who in a few years time would be building Malta's IT infrastructure.
