The House of Representatives this evening started to debate a Bill for the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development to be enlarged.

The Bill was moved by Chris Said, Minister of Justice and Public Dialogue, who in his introduction spoke on how the council was set up 11 years ago and had since evolved.

The council's membership is to be extended to include the FORUM group of trade unions and representatives of civil society and Gozo. Their representatives will be elected by recognised associations represented on MCESD sub-committees.

The Bill was later unanimously agreed.
