Pietà Hotspurs failed to gain the point they needed to stay up as they were battered by a superior Mosta side.

Mosta ended the season with a strong display that confirmed their potential but a lack of consistency hampered their chances of making a strong push for promotion.

The Blues took only 10 minutes to break the deadlock. Victor Osobu, who was making his return after a long lay-off, crossed for Mark Briggs who poked the ball into the net.

This early goal shattered Pietà who conceded again eight minutes later. Pietà goalkeeper Miguel Montfort stumbled as he tried to close down Osobu who had little difficulty sliding the ball into the net.

Briggs and Osobu continued to torment the Pietà defence with the former driving just wide from an acute angle in the 23rd minute.

After 30 minutes of Mosta domination, the Hotspurs began to venture forward. Seven minutes from half-time, they pulled one back when Quilin Refalo scored from close range after some good work by Alabi.

Just before half-time, Pietà could have made it 2-2 when a bad clearance by the Mosta goalkeeper fell to Zack Muscat who shot high and wide.

Pietà were more aggressive at the start of the second half. Shots by Alabi and Muscat missed the target.

As the second period moved on, Mosta regained the initiative and it was no surprise when they sealed the issue with a third goal 16 minutes from time.

Lee Grima was the provider with a good cross for Gilbert Martin who headed home from close range to crush Pietà's hopes. The Hotspurs will now face St Patrick in a relegation play-off.
