Occupancy in hotels and other places of collective accommodation dropped by 3.4 percent in January when compared to January 2008, to reach 31.5 percent, the NSO said today.

It said total arrivals in January reached 44,938 of which 36,186 were foreigners. Total nights spent in collective accommodation establishments reached 325,385, a decrease of 13.8 percent over January 2008, with the largest drops being in the 3-star and 4-star hotel categories. The average length of stay was 7.2 nights.

The total bedstock in January was 37,097, an increase of 2.5 percent compared to January 2008, but the number of beds in Gozo and Comino was down by 1.6 percent to 1,742
