The total number of guests and nights spent in hotels and other establishments during the first quarter of 2018 advanced by 16.4 per cent and 12.7 per cent respectively when compared to the corresponding quarter in 2017.

When analysed by region, Gozo also shared in the growth, seeing increases of 7.7 per cent and 10.1 per cent respectively.

The National Statistics Office reported on Wednesday that there were 397,518 guests over the three-month period, spending a total of 1,848,171 nights.

Four-star hotel accounted for 50.7 per cent of the total, while the average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went down to 4.6 nights from 4.8 in 2017.

During March 2018, there were 184 active hotels and establishments with a net capacity of 17,655 bedrooms and 39,843 bed-places on a national level.
